Associations and Organisations
Radina Microregion
The Radina Microregion, whose old Slavic name derives from a hill situated in the centre of this area, was founded in February 1999. The Association of Municipalities Radina was initially formed by ten municipalities with their parts. One third of the municipalities come from the Klatovy district – Velký Bor with the part Slivonice, Slatina, Svéradice, and Horažďovice with the parts Babín and Komušín. Two thirds of the municipalities come from the Strakonice district – Záboří, Čečelovice, Lažánky, Bratronice, and Doubravice with the parts Nahošín and Mečichov. Shortly afterwards, the municipalities of Kadov with the parts Pole, Lnářský Málkov, Vrbno and Mračov, the municipality of Hlupín, and Třebohostice with the part Zadní Zborovice joined the association. In total, the Association of Municipalities Radina comprises 13 municipalities with their parts and has approximately 2,500 residents. The representatives of the municipalities from the Klatovy and Strakonice districts were brought together by a shared concern and a drive for the future development of their communities.
Small villages in particular have been losing population over the years and this trend continues. It is not and will not be within the power of these small villages – which wish to preserve their identity – to independently create the conditions needed to halt depopulation. Only by joining forces, regardless of territorial boundaries, are the municipalities able to undertake joint projects. The purpose of establishing the Association is to find common opportunities and resources for greater local employment, to build water supply networks, sewage treatment plants and cycle paths, and above all to jointly develop gas supply infrastructure in all participating municipalities. A further task was to establish a microregional development office within the Radina Association, which began its activities in October 1999 in the Municipal Office building in Velký Bor. The development centre actively participates in drawing up the Microregion Development Strategy, in preparing proposed projects and in securing financial resources for their implementation. The centre is to serve as a guarantor of cooperation between all significant entities of the microregion, with its further focus determined by the needs of the associated municipalities going forward.
The microregion forms part of the Czech Highlands landscape. The entire area belongs to the Šumava geomorphological system. The southern part of the microregion is touched by the Blatná Uplands and the northern part borders the Brdy range. The varied and balanced landscape, including the well-preserved natural environment, creates excellent residential and recreational potential for the area. It is an important destination for tourism and recreation, offering opportunities for hiking and cycling, winter sports, water sports, sport fishing, hunting, and visits to cultural monuments and natural attractions.
